Joey Barton to Pompey?

NEWCASTLE bad-boy Joey Barton is a shock £5million Portsmouth target.

Pompey manager Tony Adams has checked on the midfielder’s availability.

Barton, 26, returns next week after two months out with a knee injury and Toon boss Joe Kinnear will plead with him to stay.

But Adams knows Barton well following time spent at his Sporting Chance clinic and understands how to deal with the demons which have threatened to destroy the Scouser’s career.

Portsmouth need new midfielders with Papa Bouba Diop crocked for three months and Lassana Diarra sold to Real Madrid.

Barton’s agent Willie McKay said: “It doesn’t surprise me if there is interest because Joey is a great midfielder.”

*Note* I have not read or heard anything about this actual going through. NUFC hasn't said anything that I know of. If you want to read more articles just go to Google type in Joey's name and hit the News Search option. The articles will pull up then.
